I Think I Can, I Know I Can: Skills for working with clients who use substances

This one-day workshop provides the foundations to work with clients who use substances. It targets generalist workers such as counsellors, psychologists, social workers, support workers and community workers.

Learning objectives:

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about:

  • the different substances and why and how people use them
  • the potential problems people may encounter from using drugs
  • the components of a psychosocial assessment of AOD use and what type of treatment options are available in the community
  • ways to deal with people who aren’t ready to address their AOD use as well as those who are
  • strategies to use when people are having difficulty maintaining changes to their drug use.
